Today must be the day with the most dramatic turn of events ever. After everything that happened with Jesse, Kenneth just had to come walking into the room. Just when I had finally almost forgotten about him, he reappears like a bad dream.

I’m just relieved Jonathan offered me a ride home when he did. I’m beginning to realize I shouldn’t be scared of him. I’m actually rather thankful to him right now, because I’m convinced Jesse would have hurt me a lot more than he did if Jonathan hadn’t stopped him. I always thought of Jesse as a creepy guy and to be honest, I’m shocked he waited this long to show his true colors. The stories I heard were bad, but nothing that indicated he would take things that far.

Once we’re in the parking lot, Jonathan points to a brand-new black sports car.

“Is that yours?” I say.

He grins like a little boy on Christmas morning who woke up to find a shiny new bicycle under the tree.

“Absolutely, baby. For this part of the tour, anyway.” He opens the door for me. “Get in. Wait until you see the interior. It’s the sexiest car in the world.”

The cool leather feels soft against my skin as I slide into the passenger seat. This is by far the most beautiful car I have ever seen. It still smells like new, so he must be the first person renting it.

Immediately kicking off my shoes again, I almost moan out loud at the relief that courses through me. Those things are like walking around with torture chambers strapped to your feet.

Once the pain that’s been plaguing me eases, I suddenly feel exhausted. Tonight absolutely drained me—on all levels.

Between unexpectedly bumping into Jonathan, having to endure and the fight against Jesse, and seeing Kenneth, I have zero energy left.

Jonathan walks to the other side and takes a seat behind the wheel. The car comes to life with a loud roar of the engine at the push of a button.

“What kind of car is this?” I ask, admiring the lights in the sleek interior. Even the little lights in the dashboard seem fancier than any other car I’ve ever been in.

“This, baby, is an Aston Martin DB9. I have one at home and I can’t get enough of it, so now I rent one whenever we’re stopping somewhere for long enough.”

When Jonathan looks at me with a question in his eyes and doesn’t pull out of the parking space, I frown. “What?”

“Where should I take you?”

“Oh. Right. That.” I laugh. “Same place you had to drive me to just the other night.”

“I, uh.” He rubs the back of his head with this adorable smile that somehow still manages to be sexy just because it’s on him spreading on his lips. “I wasn’t really paying much attention to the road. I just followed Karen.”

As I give him the address, he puts it into the car’s navigation system. I could easily tell him the way to my apartment, but now that I’m this close to him, I might get distracted.
